Fatherless Child

Empty spaces

Nothing and no one can fill

Inexplicable grief for a thing never had

A chorus of what ifs

Echoing in your head

Would you have been

better off if

The shadow had been corporeal

Spared from the poor conditions

You were forced to endure

A real-life human father

In your dream of dreams

Akin to a savior

Changes the trajectory

Of your life

Just his presence

Would have made

Life so much better

Someone who would love you

Unconditionally from the start

But that wasn’t the case

Not for you

You were chosen

For this journey instead

Destined for this

This profound sadness

With no relief in sight

What is your worth

Fatherless child

If he didn’t stick around
