Me: Part One

I am a Wife

Part of the LEOW club for over a decade! 💙🖤

I am a Mother

The hardest job ever, hands down, but also the most rewarding 💕

I’m from the Ghetto

I grew up in a single parent household on public assistance within a poor city that boasted dealers on corners, boarded up houses, and babies having babies.

I Don’t Do Drama

Nope, nope, nope, and more nope. No room for it, no time for it, no tolerance for it.

I Aspire to be Bougie

I don’t see this happening since I grew up poor, but man, I wish I could be bougie. I was just telling my husband the other day that I used to love Whitley from A Different World because in my child’s mind, she was “fancy”. As an adult I realized that she was just bougie, but I still love it. Having grown up without, for me at least, has made it so that I don’t need a lot to function and live comfortably. Something as small as getting coffee (and maybe a sausage wrap) from Dunkin’ on the way into work is a treat for me. I could just as well be walking to work with no money for anything extra or not have a job at all. I feel a twinge of guilt when I toss out the heels of bread (if I don’t need them to keep my brown sugar soft) and uppity because I have one tumbler for cold drinks (water) and another for tea and coffee. In truth, there are certain things that fall into the “we don’t have to live like this camp” for me like socks with holes and fourth day leftovers, but you best believe I will take the lid off of the lotion bottle and squeeze the life out of the toothpaste tube to get out every last drop.

I Love Organization

It seriously brings me joy to organize things. My splurges, besides clothing, are on organization/storage items. Now, does this mean I’m a super organized person? Not all the time. I really do try to create systems in my home that everyone can stick to; some work and some don’t. Shows like The Home Edit and the various organization groups I belong to on Facebook make me drool with envy. If I had the money and time, every single item in my house would have its own perfectly displayed place.

I Love Reading

I grew up as an only child for seven years and taught myself how to read at age four. Being transformed to another world through a book was a reprieve given the environment I grew up in. I’ve worked in library systems a few different times and harbor a life long love of learning and being taken on a journey through the written word.

I Love Writing

Throughout adolescence and early adulthood, I would go through phases where I’d write fictional stories that I never shared with anyone. I’d go through periods of time where I put writing aside, then come back and scrap everything I’d written before and start anew. This time feels different. This time I have the confidence to share my writing with others and have taken on new opportunities that have presented themselves just because I put myself out there. This is my spiritual gift and I intend to use it to share my experiences and encourage others.

What Makes Me Happy

My faith

My family

My friends

TV Shows (This is Us, then mostly Netflix)

Musicals (Hamilton and many more)

Singing

Wine (pink, some reds are okay)

Bubble baths

Acting

What Irks Me

Unreliable people

Not being taken seriously

Feeling stuck or on hold in life

What I Want out of Life

Everything. Not even joking. I want all of God’s promises for my life to manifest. Everything that was spoken over me by my grandmother, every good thing that I have room to handle, I want that. And not just for my benefit. For my child to see what is possible through faith. For my family to be blessed. I want to add to my testimony to share with others. To help pull someone up out of the depths of depression or aid in calming someone’s anxiety. To, through my work, speak directly to the person who is suffering abuse and let them know that they will get through it. That there is an end in sight and all you have to do is keep going, one foot in front of the other.
